Less Grinding
Well, my synchros are bad so whenever I shift, I either granny shift or shift at really low RPMs. Anyways, today was a VERY hot day in SoCal and after just a couple of minutes with my car on, I noticed the shifting was a lot smoother. I started shifting normal and no grinding. Anyone wanna explain this phenomenon? Is it just that I usually don't drive long enough to get the car or oil warm enough?

Its the warmness! When it started getting cold the SL I had started being notchy.

The oil is thinner when its warm. When the oil is thinner it doesnt lubricate the syncros as much and they grab each other better. You may just want to try putting thinner oil in when its cold out. This will result in the syncros wearing faster, but if they are already on their way out it will give you a little time that is useable.

My second gear synchro is on its way out
, gotta change the tranny fluid, gonna use royal purple. One question, Would higher weight oil (10w30) make for higher oil pressure than lower weight oil? (5w30)? I've got a bunch of Mobil-1 5w30 but the mechanic that checked out my intake today said that he'd put 10w30 in during the summer, I was also told that 5w30 would be better for the turbos... any thoughts on what would be best during hte summer?

Thourun, report back on how the Royal Purple goes in your tranny. I gotta do mine when I get home this summer but am not sure as to what I will be using. I was planning on using the Synchromesh but after reading those threads from 3si that you posted, I'm skeptical now (especially since no one here has said anything else about it). So yeah, let me know and if it works out for ya, I'll probably be getting me some of them too. Thanks.

I bet the synchromesh is good for getting the last out of your synchros, but if your car isn't grinding unbearably I'd go with the royal purple, gotta find a place that sells it first though. I asked a guy at advanced auto but I forget the name of the place he talked about lol.

If I was attempting to get the last out of my syncros I would toss in some synthetic 0w-30 oil and see how it works.
