1g 2g AWD drivetrain parts interchange
Could anyone offer any information on the interchangability of 1g and 2g drivetrain parts? I have searched a little but haven't turned up a whole lot. Specifically what I am wondering is if the rear end and drive-shaft from a 1g would bolt into a 2g as well as other parts like the trans and tc. Thanks.

Re: 1g 2g AWD drivetrain parts interchange
in short none of it can be swapped. with enough money and custiom fab you could make it work but it wouldnt be worth it. if you want a stronger trans and tranfercase check out Team Rip Engineering and ShepRacing they both build race quality transmisions in stock cases to drop right in. you can also check out magnus motorsports "dogbox" if you need something to handle really serious power

Re: 1g 2g AWD drivetrain parts interchange
The Tcases are the same between ~91 and 96. They will also bolt up to 97-99s but the gear ratio is wrong. The earlier tcases, 90s only I believe but could be wrong, have one more or less spline on the shaft. They are also interchangeable if you swap the output shaft as well. 92 and up Center Diffs are all the same. A 2g tranny will work in a 1g if you modify the passenger side mounts slightly, but a 1g tranny will not work in a 2g without lots of welding. Clutches are the same for all, and flywheels are interchangeable as well (Staying within 7 bolt varieties and drivetrain configuration of course). The later 1Gs, 92 and up typically, will have a 4 bolt rear end. Wether or not that is interchangeable with the 2g 4 bolt I do not know. I believe the axles are different as well, but I have never had any personal expereince with trying to swap them. Most of the tranny internals are interchangeable as well with a few exceptions, the internal case dimensions are the same.
