fuel problem!!

HI,
I have a 2001 chev silverado 1500 5.3l.
Recently it has been having a hard time starting in the morning and sometimes i have to give is some gas then wait a while for it to start. Also i have been driving along and the truck will quit on me. (not very often but sometimes). If i rev it to about 5000 the truck will start hesitating then when it shifts down it will usually just stall then start back up as sson as i turn the key. So i went to leave work today and i cannot get it to start at all. I cannot hear my feul pump priming but there is a chance that it already is because i didn't listen for it the first few times i turned it over. Do you think i need a new fuel pump or could it be something else?
thanks
Chris
