cv joint or engine mount????????

symptoms: constant "knocking" sound, not rhythmic at all more like a vibration. mostly w/ low rpms, i.e.--esp. when shifted in 3rd too early,4th too early etc etc.. sound like a motor mount right? BUT symptoms for bad cv joint are a similar noise in turns. the noise seems worse when turning (either diection) only when the car is COLD like first 2-3 turns i take, then no longer heard in turns, just like i said first low rpm. and is there any way to tell which mount may be the bad 1 w/out taking them out???sounds like its coming from the right side of the car?????any help is appreciated

cv shaft

crawl under the car and move the axle shaft back and forth. If it is bad than it will move more than 1/4" of rotation. Try Left side axle fist it sounds like that is where you problem is but try both. Then for the engine mount open your hood and rev your engine up it shouldn't move too much just use your own judgment on it.
