Do you have a G80 locking rear end? If so, does it make a popping sound when your taking turns?

If it does, it sounds like your rear end could need some fixing. I had a 1990 Full Size cab in a half long bed with the G80 on it & it blew on me. Thankfully, it was covered under warranty & I have no idea what it would cost to repair one now. Don't think that it is too much.............

If it isn't that, then I don't have a clue. It's just one of those things where I would have to drive it to hear it to maybe figure it out........

Or you could just take it to the dealer where they would tell you that "they all do that....it's normal darn dealers.........

Re: Rear End Noise??

Ya try jacking the back end up so that the tires are up off of the ground and crawl under there and find out if you can still here the noise see if it is coming from the driveshaft, of the front of the rear-end. Also it is time to change the diff fluid anyways witch you have to pull of the diff cover so a great time to inspect bearings

Re: Rear End Noise??

Thanks for the reply, I pulled it apart and found the inner pinion bearing was spent. I put every bearing and seal it and it sounded great, Until! I drove it the next day for aprx 3 miles and it started making noise when I went from D to R. I pulled it back apart and the pinion was not tightened properly (my bad) but I fixed that and now the spider gears are shot. Who knows, I have taken this thing apart 3 times and now I ordered a spider set so I'll be back under there tomorrow night. But at least the dealer sold me Grape sented gear lube @ 29 beans a quart.
