1993 chevy cavalier OVERHEATING
Recently I had to replace the head gasket on the car. When I put it back together, it started overheating. Checked the thermostat. Doesn't pop after a boil test, replace it, still overheats. Checked to make sure the fan was working, unplugged it and plugged it back in. STILL NOTHING!
I know the problem isn't electrical because I smell that funky stench of a radiator in distress. It stalls out, I put it in park, start it back up, put it in drive and it stalls again. I'm tired of pushing this bucket around, for the love of God help me! |

make sure that you have all of the air out. checked the bleader valves and see if you can get a test done on your water pump

Re: 1993 chevy cavalier OVERHEATING
I assume you replaced it because it blew the old gasket?
If you didn't service the head it's probably warped and it's blowing the new one. My old 2.2 (RIP) had a leaky lower rad. hose, I was leaving to fix it and it blew, a minute later it was too late. Well I had a friend of a friend fix it cheap. He tested it for cracks but didn't have it planed/shaved. It made a bubbling sound for two weeks, then I'm cruising down I-81 and I hear this "Peeewsh!" sound, and the temp was heading north, again. It had blown a chunk out of the gasket. This time I had someone else fix it right, that motor made it through a couple more years before spinning a bearing. Is it easy to start? Any water in the oil? 2.2? |

If you have high miles on the radiator it may need to be flushed. I still need to do mine!

Re: 1993 chevy cavalier OVERHEATING
You might not have re-torqued the bolts properly. Possibly air though.

Maybe in the fuse box? Check the connector on the fan, it may have popped loose...

Re: 1993 chevy cavalier OVERHEATING
I currently have a problem that is very similar. its a 97 cavalier and it over heats. The weird thing is that the fan does not come on until after it starts overheating. Not sure what to do. It also has the same problem with stalling out but when I restart it, it will run very rough. any help is greatly appreciated.
