Try this. My 2001 QX4 (Pathfinder type) programs this way. Get in the car with the doors closed and lock the doors with the door switch at the power windows switch. Slide the key totally in and totally out of the ignition 6 or 7 times. The emergency lights on the dash should flash a couple of times. Then turn the ignition switch to on but don't start the car. Now push a button on the remote. The lights should flash again showing it worked.
You have 10 seconds to slide the key in and out so no hurry. But if you take longer it won't work.
