customizing altezzas...
I have been thinking about painting/customizing my Altezzas for my civic. I have had the skyline Altezzas for a while and bought b/c let's face it, Skyline's kick ass! After seeing car out there have them, I am thinking about painting them. My car is black and I want to paint the clear part of the lights black so you can only see the red. I've taken them off and tried prying them apart, but when I try seperate them, it feels like I'm going to break them. Any advice? I have also thought about putting black vinyl over the clear. There is a vinyl shop down the road so I might see if they can do anything.

My oppinion is just take your time and be careful when you pull them apppart. Same thing with you headlights if you want to pry them appart and paint the background black. Just make sure you take your time to pull them appart and also take your time to seal them back up. You don't want them to leack. Your best bet to seal them back is to use the clear RTV. Also if you have the stock headlights while you have them open you can take out the amber corners from the inside turn signal.
And then boom you have clear cornvers.:sun: Good luck. stefan525

I've tried pulling the clear part away from the base with a screwdriver, but everytime I try, I am afraid it will crack. I've already broken 2 of the tabs that hold the clear part of the light to the base. I went to the vinyl shop today and they gave me a sample piece of high protective vinyl and I am going to test that out on my stock tail lights to see what it'll look like.
"btw - 99.999% chance painting your lenses black is incredibly illegal. " The entire lense isn't going to be black, just over the clear part. The red part of the lense will still be showing. Anyone have any info on how to seperate the clear lense from the tail light w/out breaking it?

Why don't you do what I did and paint the housing. If you paint the lens it is going to look like the phantom covers for headlights.
Here is what mine look like? http://www.imagestation.com/album/?i...97&mode=invite Make sure you use black silicone to reseal it or else you will have the white outline like I do. (which I will be taking care of after I get the damage to my car fixed. Try not to use the screwdriver to much or you will scratch your lenses just heat the sides of the lights with a blow dryer for a very long time. If you get it hot enough you can just push on the tabs with the screwdriver and pry them apart with your hands. |

hairdryer works
heck ya, a hairdryer does wonders... ;D
when i cleared my headlights, all i used was a hair dryer and my bare hands (and a screw driver every now and then). but you still gotta be careful. GOOD LUCK! P.S. which are skylines? I had 2nd generations, which i think might be what you got, i dunno. i sold my euros ;x played out.... |

I think maybe you should think about just selling your tail lights and then buying new ones with either the black housing or the carbon fiber housings. I dunno... just an idea.
