92 Galant Check Engine Light On Wont Keep Running

Hi,
My sweet 1992 Galant isnt being very nice.. after the car sitting for 1 week while on vacation I came home to it starting just fine but wont keep running unless you keep giving it gas. The Check Engine light is also on. I got it to run fine with no light for a day, then it stranded me at the supermarket.. started fine, wouldnt keep running or move. Then I tried to do the one foot on brake and give it gas so I could better postion it in the parking space, the car kept running so I drove it home ( about 1 mile). Backed it into a parking spot and went to try it this morning, same thing. Starts right up, check engine light is on, wont keep running without giving it gas. I need a guideline as to what the problem could or might be?? I will have to have it towed somewhere for service but having been ripped off majorly in the past by auto repair shops so I like to have as much knowledge as possible as to what could be the problem. Any help or insight on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!
Dayle

sounds like your fuel pump, or you just might be going through a tank of bad gas.
