Q Power.....or not?

Anyone know anything about this Q Power oil that is so generously advertised on AF? i havent seen it in stores yet to know how much it costs and also have no heard from anyone that tried it. I find it a lil hard to believe that any oil will give you more (meaning noticeable) power. any input....?

I Havent Seen It Yet In Any Stores... The Less Resistance U Got The Better, But I Dont Know If U Will Feel A Differance....i've Always Used Gtx And Will Continue To Use It, Unless I Really See A Difference With Another Motor Oil

Re: Q Power.....or not?

I used to be a die-hard Castrol user, until I realized that I was using 1/2 a qt between every oil change (3000Miles) on a freshly rebuilt motor in a previous vehicle I owned. I tried GTX of different weights, and then the Syntec. No change. Not to say that Castrol is bad, because up until I rebuilt the motor, I used Castrol and the inside of the motor turned out exceptionally clean for the miles it had on it. But reluctantly I tried switching to Mobil. No more 1/2 qt loss after that.
I use conventional Mobil 10w40 in my 93 Suzuki 750 with 40,000 miles on it, and Mobil 1 5w30 synthetic in my 96 Z71 5.7L with 162,000 miles. Oil consumption is negligible on both. I still change the bike oil out every 2,000 only cuz' I run the piss out of it. But the truck's oil change interval has doubled. At 3,000miles, the oil is as clean as when I put it in. So I change it every 6k know. So now I'm a Mobil fan when it comes to oil. In fact, usually it's cheaper too. I buy Mobil 1 in a 5qt container at Wal-Mart for under $20! Conventional Mobil I get at Advance Auto for about $1.20 a qt. Go figure, considering GTX is about $1.75/qt

Re: Q Power.....or not?

Wish the Wl-Mart's around here were selling Mobil 1 for under $20 per 5 qt. jug. That's the ONLY reason I haven't switched over yet is due to the cost of Mobil 1. So I'm still using Castrol GTX. Also, I wish that was only costing me $1.75 per qt., cheapest I can find it is $1.89. Oh yeah, Mobil 1 runs about $4.59 at best per qt. around here.

Re: Q Power.....or not?

I don't see how it could possibly make a noticable difference... if there was very much friction at all, the bearings would get chewed up in no time. I could see it boosting gas mileage a little bit, and giving you a few more miles on the engine.

I helped my circle track racing buddy change over to lucas oil & it made a big dif!!!Idle was 1200 rpm before oil cng & 1600 after. Had to lower idle.Keep in mind this is a 30,000dollar motor & I dont think he would risk doin somthing stupid!Dont know if this helps but I saw it with my own eyes.

Re: Q Power.....or not?

Do they actually make an oil, or just the additive? Supposedly, the oil additive airates the oil which makes it not lubricate as well. Do a search for it in the S-10 forum, there was a link in a post that shows what it does.

I doubt that you'd see a difference just in changing oils, well in power anyways. I use to just run cheap shit from the auto parts store in a small town and then I decided to change to Valvoline Synthetic 5W-30 and my oil change also doubled. After 2,000 miles with that oil it was black as black could be, but with the V.S. shit still looks new after that. If your happy with what your runnin right now then just keep it, I know that Royal Purple claims their oil adds power too, and that's prob about the best oil there is right? I spend about 20 bucks for 5 quart jug so it's not too bad, twice that of mineral oil but hey, I'm extending my oil changes and possibly getting better mileage overall. I suppose from now on that I'll stick with synthetics and after using Valvoline I'm set, not that I'd never change though because there are some good ones. Only thing that I've seen that I think is bullshit when it comes to oil is Mobil 1's new ones that are 5,000, 7,500, or 15,000 mile oil. It depends more on the car's engine/driving habit then what oil is in it. I guarantee if I tried that 15,000 mile shit in my truck it wouldn't last half of that.

Re: Q Power.....or not?

I'd rather have my oil black after 2,000 miles. If the oil's black, that means it's getting the carbon out of the engine. I don't know a lot about oil, other than the engine will sieze up without it, so i may be wrong. The synthetics might just not turn black due to a different chemical composition. Or maybe they deposit more of the carbon in the filter. Like I said, I don't really know, but I'm more comfortable seeing the black come out. I run a bottle of SeaFoam through the crankcase 500 miles before every oil change, and my oil is gold till then.

Yeah I see where your coming from. I'm not sure about the synthetic cleanin the carbon out, I lean away towards is filtering through just because mineral oil should go through the filter just as much. I think the first time you run synthetic it cleans more of that crap out, and then every time after that it gets less and less or something. Because I know there were threads saying that some people would develop an oil leak because of synthetic cleaning it out so much.

Talking AMS Oil

I am a dehard AMSOil user in my 98 Z71. when Is swictched over to AMS my oil pressure went from 60 psi when cold to 40 psi and when warmd up it runs smoothly at 20psi. My idle speed went from 1200 to 1500 rpm's and the engine tmep is running about 20 degrees less. It is exspenive in the beginning but if you use a AMS filter you change the filter at 12,500 and top off the oil level then change everything at 25,00 miles
