mk3 supra reliability
as of now, i don't have a car, but i am looking into the mk3 supras. I find that the look of modern cars ais just way too feminine for me (no offense to any females out there), everything has gone too soft (new eclipse, new celica, etc.). So i want a true muscle car and what better is there than the mk3 supra.
Anyway, my question is, how are all ur mk3 supras holding up. are u guys having maintenance problems with them? or is that japanese reliability still holding up after almost 1.5 to 2 decades. and if you guys are having to make repairs, what kind of repairs are you making? how long are these repairs lasting? are u constantly having to fix the same thing? |

One of the only, and biggest engine problems is the head gasket. The stock one is not really that strong.

Re: mk3 supra reliability
Ive got two 88 Mk3 with 256,000 miles on it, and one with 198,000. Both still run very strong, with out much maintenance other than oil changes every 3,000 miles.

Re: mk3 supra reliability
My bro had one a few years back with over 200,000 miles on it, it ran without problems until he crashed it. It even started right up after storing it in a outside carport over the harsh Minnesota winters. The Toyota inline six seems to be the most reliable engine ever made in my opinion(not to mentiona alot of HP and torque).

Re: mk3 supra reliability
Theres really not much to do as far as keeping them in good shape, just general maintenance and it seems like theyll last forever...unless you crash it.

My problems havent been the engine (except the haed gasket), but since ive bought my 1988 supra, ive had to replace the whol braking system (they broke because its an import), the radiator, thermostate. altenator, clutch, and most recently the temp sender. everyone thinks i should sell it but im not going to, i love it too much. just remember to keep ur eye on th water temp. if it starts to move, get it checked out. LONG LIFE THE SUPRA
