Rusted Hood

Right at the edge of the hood by the windshield wipers the paint is starting to bubble up. There is no chip in the paint or anything but the pait is starting to bubble for about 2 inches. Any one else have this problem?

Re: Rusted Hood

Sorry I forgot... It's a 2000 Montana. I don't think that it should be bubbleing so bad this fast.

Yep, I have that problem too – I’ll just add it to the plethora of problems I have now! The hood is made of aluminum. The salt spray and accumulated snow manage to get right up into the seam at the rear of the hood (next to the windshield).

Nice design GM....NOT!

Maybe GM should stop building cars and trucks and manufacture wheel barrels instead. That way they can't hurt anyone or cause a lot of grief as witnessed in this forum.

Re: Re: Rusted Hood

I have a 2000 also and have not seen any paint issues on the hood. Ours is white. Our van has been pretty good overall. Had the manifold gasket replaced under warranty. Handful of minor stuff. The biggest gripe I have is the power sliding door. We go to the dealer every 6-12 months to fix ever changing problems with the door.

Re: Rusted Hood

I have a '97 Venture and about 4 years ago I noticed the same problem you are having. Now since then I have noticed rust on the rear hatch near the moulding, on the passenger side roof near the windshield( actual hole is visible now, about the size of a pencil eraser,) on the drivers side, the area near the front door towards the bottom of the van. It is a 3 dr model, and just this past month was shocked when I was looking at the area of the lower rocker panel on the driver's side towards the bottom of the side panel almost to the rear wheel opening,I saw what looked like a grease spot. On further inspection, it was a giant rust hole in the panel, about 3"x2". It was just starting to come through and the metal was very brittle and pieces broke away as I probed around it. I keep the vehicle clean, and washed, including the undercarriage, so it came as a surprise as to the extent of damage from the rust. I know I live in an area that uses a lot of salt on the roads, but I have seen similar year vans without this problem. I also own another '97 Venture, this one a 4 dr. model and it really doesn't have any rust on it yet. Leads me to believe this vehicle with the rust on it was prepped and painted on a Monday morning or late Friday afternoon of a 3 day weekend.

Re: Rusted Hood

I have this problem as well. Top by windshiel wipersa AND down at the bottom. I also had some on the roof above windshield molding. I had the WS replaced 5 years ago under insurance. They fixed it this time since it was life time warrenty. We also had water coming in with rain. When it was over, I lost the van for 26 days and my insurance footed 4998.00 to replace the entire roof and beams...said it was rusted throughout. I paid 60.00 to grind rust off the rear hatch that the guy told me was due to poor GM design. Thank God for insurance!!

Re: Rusted Hood

I've got a 2000. The dealer repainted the hood in 2002 with bubbling showing up at the top near the windshield. Now it's got five or six nasty three inch cancer spots all across the bottom. After reading here that the hood is aluminum - That explains electrolosis going on, probably at the bolt points for the grille. Remember the famous Austin Healy issues with steel fenders joined to an aluminum body section. they litterally ate themselves alive with electrolosis. Is GM doing anything about this???
