New talon oil concern.

I just got a 92 talon Tsi FWD 5 spd. and when its idiling the oil pressure reads really low (about halfway between the low normal mark and the L) but when im driving its fine. It idles fine with no noise or changes in rpm. It has a brand new oil pump so i know its not that. What could this be? Is it normal? Also my second concern is after ive been driving a while it smells a little hot when i get out but it reads that its running cool. Is this just from the turbo? Im new to the dsm world. Hopefully some one has some answers.

Re: New talon oil concern.

Your oil pressure goes up w/ RPM's. When your car is fully warmed up, at idle the guage should be right next to the "L", when crusing it should be in the middle of the two lines. The oil pump runs of the timing belt, therefore pumps more oil w/ RPM increase. Keep in mind the oil pressure will be higher when the motor is cold.

I'm having a hard time understanding the "smells hot" part, but as long as your temp guage is before half your fine. And yes the turbo can get really hot, if you run boost for long enough, it will make your exhaust manifold cover glow red.

BTW, allways make sure to idle you car for a minute or 2 after driving to let the turbo cool down and loose oil before turing it off. This will make your turbo last a lot longer. I belive there should be a sticker on the drivers side visor explaining this
