which turbo kit is better

just a question on what kit is better fiautosports.com turbo kit that make 5.8 psi but with the 510cc fuel injectors to make 9- 15psi
or rippmods.com stage 2 sds kit and also wat would be better for my engine all your opinions would be greatly appreciated thnx

I am, of course, biased, but it is not without cause. Let me explain, and this is honest.

I first started being interested in a turbo kit for the 3G because I saw that Ripp's claimed dyno numbers were no where close to the actual numbers being laid down by the cars, on dyno's that I witnessed, sometimes up to 70whp off. That is quite alot.

A turbo is a much more adjustable kit. To upgrade the SDS, you would have to buy a smaller pulley ($70), header ($625), and fuel upgrades (no less than $400), including the SDS kit itself for a total of $5125. And that is just for Stage 2 making 190whp on the dyno running 9psi on a 11psi pulley (belt slip). And belt slip is another issue with the SDS. I have seen a 17psi pulley get no more than 11.3psi due to belt slip.

With a turbo, there is no belt slip. And to upgrade that would be the price of the kit plus fuel and boost control upgrades (from $650-$1000,depending on the products) and you can run 13psi all day with a good tune and make well over 300whp, dyno proven.

Plus, the SDS requires that you do not go into boost for the initial 1000 miles, for a learning and break in time for the piggyback control unit. With the turbo, it is plug, play, tune, go. That's it. No learning time, nothing like that.

Price Comparison total
Turbo: $5100 installed/tuned, with 15psi upgrades available, over 300whp (dyno proven)

SDS: $5900 installed, 1000 miles of a piggyback ECU learning curve, last dyno sheet I saw was 190whp.

Ripp is also going to say that their SDS has no engine failures*. Well, the turbo does not have any either, so that kinda blows their statement out of the water.

Truly, on the 4G64, the turbo kit is a much better performer.

i agree with john. i also want it to be clear that you do NOT increase boost just by getting bigger injectors. i took your statement as buying bigger injectors will make you run more boost.

umm...no. you do not NEED a boost controller to run higher boost. to run higher boost, you need the spring in the wastegauge to be able to hold boost.

a boost controller does exactly what its says....controls boost. you are able to turn the boost up and down with the boost controller. however, you can only turn it up as far as the wastegauge will let you.

its great to have the boost controller though
