87 GTI Clutch/Tranny lunges in gear

OK. So I have an 87 GTI 8v. (RD engine, 9A tranny) I broke a clutch cable on the freeway and had it towed home. I replaced the clutch cable, and the car lunges violently in gear. All gears except Rev. It's like when you first learned how to drive a manual, and you'd slip the clutch and the car would shake until you gave it more gas. So... I repaced the clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing , and that little finger that always breaks. I get the car together, and same damn problem. I have tried adjusting that cable 800,000 times and no luck. Any Help??? Please???
