USDM Right Hand Drive Conversion ????
I need some advice from you guys...I need to decide what is going to be the best Course of Action for my new REX that I just got. It's a dinky DX which has been stripped now. I want to build a JDM version this time around. My other 91 is a full USDM version. So I talked to my friends over at G-Speed and they are importing me a JDM Sir Front clip. Here is the thing, I want to Convert my new REX to Right hand drive. What do you guys think??? I figured I buy the clip and use all the parts from the clip to convert my shit over...Do any of you know anybody who has done this with a USDM?? I just want to know what I'm getting myself into here. I've decided I'm going to do it, but I just wanted to see if anyone knew anyone that I could talk to about this??? Well let me know if you guys have any suggestions or coments. Thanks Guys!

Sounds like a fun project. I know it's been done before I just can't remember off hand who did it though. One thing you might want to check is your local laws. I friend of mine was doing a RHD conversion and come to find out it was illegal in our state except for gov./mail vehicles.

Re: USDM Right Hand Drive Conversion ????
haha one big project...wanna make it clean your gonna have to get all the internal studd fomr the jdm rex and all the steering parts for the right hand drive...i think in the long run be cheap just by a rex rhd and figure a way to get it street legal....cause you be able have the glass top with it instead of only rhd...my opinon...dont get me wrong unless you have time and money why not try to do it

Well that's the main reason why I'm doing it...It would cost me anywere from 3500-5500 for a JDM REX...(Glass Top's are hard to find, believe I've looked into it)...The clip is only costing me $1400 from G-Speed http://www.gspeedcorp.com/cgi-bin/home.cgi <----for those of you intrested. I've ordered a glass top from Password for only 750. The clip has everything I need. I know that because that's how I got the motor for my other CRX..now that I need the clip I dont have it anymore I junked it. So you see I still come under budget. But I just want to talk to someone who has done it. I live in Utah, so I know the Laws here are not as tight as Cali, plus I know some guys here with Skylines...So I dont think it will be a big deal. So let me know if you guys find anything on this. Any help you guys can give would be awesome...My clips arrives in less then 3 weeks, so I want to do some prep work!...I'll post pictures as soon as I get a Digi cam. |

Re: USDM Right Hand Drive Conversion ????
I live in San Diego and I know one guy who has converted his 2nd Gen Integra to RHD (legally). Try emailing someone at www.sinfulenhancements.com they are very knowledgeable about body work and could probably help you (my name is CJ, you can mention me if you like).

See that's the thing it's not a bitch...With my other CRX I could have done it but I wanted to keep it USDM...When I bought the motor for that one I bought a complete Clip becuase it's cheaper it has all the parts that you need. Mounts, WireHarness, ECU...it was cheaper for me becuase I had a DX. When we pulled both motors out I noticed that they are practically the same...just little differences. It's not that hard to drill and Tap new holes were you need them, and patch up the ones you don't need anymore. I dont plan on having some shop do this. I'm tackling this head on with my friends...I've compared both clips side by side, and I know it will work, they are Identical with the exception of right hand drive. |

Re: USDM Right Hand Drive Conversion ????
Yes they are identical except for the RHD and LHD parts, but changing one over to the other is going to be a bitch. You're going to have to cut out the firewalls and weld the RHD one into your LHD crx. And then you're going to have to switch everything over from there. Hope you know how to weld right and have either a plasma cutter or a ton of cutting wheels available. So welding, cutting, rewiring, rerouting; have fun with all that.

I really dont want to cut the firewall completely out...I was thinking of cutting the Clips firewall and then using that as a template for my firewall and then patching up the open holes in my firewall. And yeah I have a plasma cutter, and my friend is a Pro welder...I haven't been able to find any picts of actual conversions...but I think I'll find something. Like I said if anyone finds anything let me know... |

Re: USDM Right Hand Drive Conversion ????
thats a pretty cool project...and my brother is in the process of converting his 94 teg to RHD...he wrecked his so he decided to go ahead and buy a front clip, but he is taking a different route with it. he is actually cutting his car in half and welding it all back together, well hes not but the bodyshop we use is doing it. but good luck with yours and post some pics when u get it going.
