Genuine Nissan oil filters are at the least very good. They have an anti-drainback filter that Joe's oil filter probably doesn't. The best oil filter on the market that I know of right now is K&N's Performance Gold. They cost about $9. Expensive for an oil filter, but remember, you don't buy one everyday and it's cheap insurance. The Nissan filter is $5, $6 with tax. When in doubt, go with Nissan. That's a good general rule for anything on your car.

I've used Nissan filters and Castrol 10/30 since new and at 70K miles it doesn't burn any that I can tell in 3K miles between changes. It also looks clean on the dipstick at 3K miles.

A friend of mine has a Altima and used Fram oil filters and had a rattle and thought it was the valves and he was asked what kind of oil filter he used and he said Fram and was told that they make a rattle sound on some cars, next oil change he used something else and the noise was gone

I'm a newbie to this forum so your advice would be helpful. I will be doing my own oil changes for a 2000 Max. According to the manual the oil drain plug is next to (to the right of) the oil filter. However, after looking under my car, the drain plug appears behind the oil reservoir.

I guess my question is this, Is the correct drain plug behind the oil Reservoir (facing the rear) ? And what is the proper way to insert the oil drain plug washer, since I noticed there wasn't one.

Has anyone used the quick drain plug from fram? I picked up ramps for 17 bucks at Walmart, and some Castrol 5w 30 from costco. Where do you guys/girls go to pick up your parts?
