Re: Help with b16a

4000 miles. if i was shown some papers for the b16a longblock rebuild with 4000 miles on it followed by a compression and leakdown, then, for $1000, id say that be a fair price for a very healthy oem b16a longblock. how do you know its 4000 miles?

Even if it is for real and legit...and in good shape...I am assuming this price is for only the motor...the longblock. You'll still need to add in the cost of the tranny and the ecu you'll have to buy seperately for the swap. Also, what year or B16A is it? If it's an OBD-I or non-OBD B16A then it's useless for your 96 EX...as it's illegel to put in. The B16A needs to be 96 or newer for your car (the same year as the chassis or newer).

Re: Help with b16a

This is why I'm glad I have a OBD1 car in NY, they don't do the emissions tests during inspections unless it's an '96 car or newer. And they just started testing the '96+ cars at the end of last year, and it was only certain counties until they slowly get all of them to do it. I'm sure NYC probably has had them for a while now (maybe, I don't really know). So along with what NY does, I'm sure there are some states that still don't do the testing yet.
I mean I understand that they have to do it for brand new cars. But I doubt all states do it for registration and inspection purposes.

It doesn't matter if yoiu live in an area that TESTS of not. These are federal laws, and there also are FEDERAL emissions standards. Now some states like Cali are stricter, but ALL states have the federal laws as min. Now do all areas test? No, but that doesn't mean the law DON't Apply. They DO apply, weather you are tested or not. Now the chances of being caught I suppose are far less if not tested but the fact remians, the federal laws and emissions standards exsist regardles of if you live in Wa, Wiscion,s or Indiana. Just because you arn't test doesn't me you have no emissions laws. The federal emissions loaws still apply, and the fact remains that it is not legel in the United States to put a motor older than the chassis into a newer car.

Before you sprout off that "get to the point i dont have tiem 2 read 3 page forums...." Do some research. So you don't have time? Then wait until you have time and find time and do the re-search before posting. Don't be in a hurry for quick answers, learnign takes time and if you don't have the time, wait to comment until you DO have the time to read. Simple.

As I said above, just because they don't have EMISSIONS TESTING DOES NOT mean emissions lawa don't exist. At the minimum, the states has the federal vehicle and emissions laws as a bear minimum. Federal law supercedes state law..so ALL states have the federal laws as a bear minimum tro abide by. No without testing, it may be easier to break the law or circumvent since it's harder to be caught...it but that doesn't make it right. The fact remains the federal laws are still there, whether you have emissions tesing or not.
