Tire Problem?

Hello,
I need some help... I have on '04 Z71 with 12,000 miles. 5,000 miles ago, I put BF Goodrich 265's on it as it orignally came with 245's. I had no problems with the tires whatsoever. After rotating the tires at 5,000 miles, I noticed a shimmy/shake in the steering wheel at about 35-45 mph. I had the tires rebalanced yesterday and now the shake is there between 50-60 mph. Does anyone have a suggestions for me?
I have already had enough problems with my new chevy so another problem doesn't surprise me, but I'm not sure what's going on with it.
Any help would be apprecaited.

Sounds to me like the problem is not necessarily with your truck, but with a wheel/tire. I'd bet that the problem is either that a front tire isn't properly balanced and/or you've got a bent rim that has rotated to the front from the back. I'd put the spare on one of the fronts and drive around and see how things are. If no change, swap out the other front tire and see what you get.

Watch the guy balance them. If he's just getting it "close enough" thats far enough off to make it shake like hell. I always balanced tires until I got it completely balanced...no matter how long it took, or either got the one that would not balance and told the people to leave it on the back if possible.

Hey jeverett i would like to see you balance the tires on my truck. Two out of the four want 10oz's of weight but by law here ...........they are only allowed to add 6oz's. Even not being balanced properly like that i have hit the governor quite a few times and i get no vibration what so ever.

it sounds like you have a out of round tire if the vibration wasnt there before the rotation...rotate em back to see if it still vibrates...

if they have a balancer with the Road Force option. have them do that. thats what we do at work and we can also match mount the tire so that the tire and the rim will match up as perfect as possible. works almost all of the time

Ok Guys,
I had the tires rebalanced again last night... I was there to watch it being done. It definitely improved a lot, but the shimmy is still there at about 50mph or so, but no where near as bad as it was. Could I have a broken belt in the tire or would I even know if I did? Or could it really be an "out of round" tire? What does that mean exactly? Is that a defect? Any other thoughts?? When I bought the tires originally, I had them put the weights on the inside of the tire... could that make a difference? I wouldn't think so, but what do I know. Or should I try to find someone that has a balancer with the Road Force option? I greatly appreciate your thoughts in helping me fixing this annoying problem. I could probably deal with it if it was old truck with a ton of miles, but it's not even a year old and I try to take good care of my trucks. Thanks again!

I had some used tires that almost shook my truck apart at 60 mph. I took them and had them trued and spin balanced on the truck to balance the tire/wheel/hub and all. I have NEVER had anything that rode as good as those tires and they lasted forever!!! Only cost me $60 for the truing abd balancing, and I'll do it on every set of tires I ever buy from now on.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the input... another question though.
Say the rim was bent, which of course I hope it's not, would I be able to tell by looking at it that it's bent or is there a special machine it would need to go on? Sorry guys.. I'm searching for straws. I'm not mechanic...

ok...the guys that balanced it should be able to tell if its bent or not just by putting it on the balancer. they should have already told you it was bent if it was.
