An anal question....
The 4x4 shifter in my new Xterra is slightly crooked. The rubber handle on it is turned slightly to the right. Is there an easy way to straighten it? I already tried the brute force method and got nowhere.
Is there a nut that needs to be loosened or something? It feels like the rubber handle is permanently attached to the shaft. In all my other cars, the rubber handle just threaded on and was replaceable. Thanks in advance,

You've experienced the handywork of the Nissan Gorilla (TM)
Some have experienced the same problem swapping their shift knob with the leather one from the Pathfinder or other aftermarket knobs. You have to twist the living hell out of it, but it should come loose. Wrap it in a rag and grab it with some large locking pliers. It will probably rotate at least half a turn before it even actually budges on the threads. Despite all precaution, some have managed to trash the knob, others gave up and just cut it off. If you're not looking to replace it, I'd just live with it. Brent |

I dont believe so. My knee rests on mine so it gets a lot of pressure. Its seems pretty strong. You might want to take it in to the dealer since it is so new if it bugs you badly otherwise dont worry about it
