Question 2001 GMC Sierra Keyless Entry?

My Husband and I just bought a '01 Sierra Ex cab SLT. It did not come with the keyless entry fob. We went to the Chevy dealer and they said that year came with two different types. They said that the Key fob numbers are under the glove box. And it would take them 2 hours and $200.00 just to get the numbers. They would have to tear out the glove box. We were also told that we could not program them ourselves.
And only a dealer could "scan" them in. They did do a VIN check and our truck did come with keyless entry.
Does anyone know if this is true??? Our Truck is not a Z71 but it has all the other bells and whistles.
I took my Dodge Grand Caravan in to the Dodge dealer with the same problem. They looked up the VIN and gave me my Key fob. I did not know one vehicle could come with two different fobs??? Am I just uneducated? HELP!!!!

Reprogramming of the key fob is straight forward and you can search this website for the instructions to do it. I have a 2000 Yukon and I doubt that the 2001 is very different from the 2000.

I suggest that you find another dealer. The part number for my key fob (again a 2000) is 15732803. Perhaps a better dealership can tell what the differences, if your year does take 2 styles.

Re: 2001 GMC Sierra Keyless Entry?

As a followup, I searched gmpartsdirect.com and found that the part number I gave you is for 1999 - 2001 Sierra. I still think you should try another dealer or send an email to [email protected] along with your vin number and see what they say.

Re: 2001 GMC Sierra Keyless Entry?

Thank you 2000CAYukon I found out that the PN for our truck is 15732806. Made only in '00 and '01. I am still trying to get one for a reasonable price. It seems that it is a rare remote. Thanks again for your help.
