questions about 2000 TDI

about 2 years ago i started losing acceleration on the takeoff in my 2000 jetta. everything else runs fine, still get about the same mileage, etc, just don't have the get up and go i used to have from a stop sign. i also have to push on the accelerator when the cruise is set and there is an incline of any degree. everything is fine for street driving, but trying to get on the highway sucks. i have a little over 100k miles, if that means anything.
also, any suggestions on replacing the struts? brands, prices, websites, etc?
thanks!

Re: questions about 2000 TDI

Can't help too much with the diesel thing, except that I've heard something about "gel" that can build up over time in the TDI that reduces power... who knows how valid that is. As for prices on parts and stuff, if you want to stay with your stock parts call 1-800-vw-parts. They're great guys to deal with and they have unbeatable prices on any parts for any vw from '80 up.

That would problably be related to Carbon buildup in the intake manifold and egr cooler. It happns on tdi's with bad fuel and short trip driving or just over time. It Could also possibly be the turbo, but 75% sure its the intake clogging. Take the intake pipe off the egr and look inside and see if it looks like alot of black residue buildup.

MAF's (Mass Air Flow) also commonly go bad, but usually it's a pronounced power loss. You can unplug the MAF sensor & see if it runs better, but this will set a code that will have to be cleared with a scanner.

Definitely sounds like a plugged intake or failing MAF.

edit: for struts, there are several options. Bilstein TC or Koni Sport are two of the popular ones. I just got some Koni's but haven't had time to get them installed yet. I'd go to www.tdiclub.com, go to their forums, and find VW TDI Discussion Areas/Upgrades(non-TDI engine related). A quick search for struts, shocks, or suspension, should yield more than any one person could read.
