breaking up

i was just wondering what are some of the best ways to get over a girlfriend. I feel like crap still I think about the qoute "breaking up is like drowning. you can only do it for so long before you have to realize you are still alive and have to fight you way back to the top. Or you can just let yourself drown." How long does i take to get over somebody you thought you knew and loved for 3 years? it seems like it going to take forever....

i just broke up with my girlfriend of 2 weeks. it just wasn't working for me, i didn't feel the same spark as i'd felt with other girls before.

but 3 years? wow...i never want to experience that.

take your time to mourn, or be mopey or whatever. but realize that life goes on, and as cheesy as it may be, the saying "there's plenty more fish in the sea" is very true, and you WILL find someone else if you start looking again. at first it will be hard to think of other women, but like you said, if you let yourself drown, then what kind of life would that be?

take as long as you want to be mopey, but at some point, move on or else you'll regret it.

Just messing around a bit. But suislide has some good advice, theres a time to mourn then theres a time to get over it. I don't think its possible to deal with something like a huge relationship like that and not feel like absolute shit.

When a good friend of mine had her mum shoot her father dead, her sister, and seriously injure my friend herself, i felt the best way to deal with it was talk. Talk about it with friends. Let your friends know how you feel and let it all out. You're not going to shake a feeling if you keep it inside of yourself.

Go out with friends to bars, clubs, strippers, get smashed, get high, do some more drugs and then realize you have a more serious problem of alcohol and drugs and you will forget about her

I went to a strip bar saturday with friends and did nothing but watch t.v. some 2003 high dunk contest or something with lebron james or something. Im sure other people felt like this. It just feels like your the only person in the world that needs attention. she was supposed to be my high school sweet heart. but i lost that to some older guy with everything i want. I feel like a loser.

You never get over it, but you do forget with time. From personal experience I will tell you that you should take however much time you need to feel better, then make sure you keep in touch with her. You don't have to be great friends, but phone her every once in a while just to be keep in touch. The hardest thing that ever happened to me wasn't breaking up with a girlfriend I loved very much, it was going to her housewarming years later and realizing I didn't know her anymore. It sucks when someone you were so close to becomes a stranger, and it feels really wierd.

Other than time, there is absolutely nothing that is going to make you feel better. There are no quick fixes.

I'm with most people. Just do shit to get your mind off it. Suddenly you'll wake up and go "I haven't thought of this person for months...and I feel great!"

i went through a similar situation, recently broke up with my girlfriend of a year and a half. although i ended the relationship, i more or less just started hanging out with my friends more to get my mind off of it, i got out more, met some girls i like who are good friends and one i am dating. you'll find a girl that you like, at first you'll compare everyone to your ex, but once you get over that.. things will work out. you'll be fine. just take it slow
