Aftermarket MAF sensor for 4.6
Hi folks,
I have a 94 Thunderbird LX with the 4.6L V-8. Last week the check engine light came on, so I took it to the shop and had them put it on the computer. The MAF sensor is shot. The mechanic suggested to go with a genuine FoMoCo replacement sensor. The shop is at the local community college (he's actually one of the instructors), so I know he's not trying to sell me parts. The sensor is around $280, he said. However, when I was doing an internet search, I discovered there were aftermarket MAF sensors that claim to increase horsepower. Is anyone familiar with these? I have seen them in the $150 range, so if I could increase my horsepower, get a reliable sensor, and save a c-note in the process, what's not to like? Comments? Recommendations would be appreciated, too. I would guess the mechanic has cheap aftermarket replacement parts in mind when he recommends Ford manufacture, not performance parts. Thanks in advance, Dan |

An aftermarket MAF sensor, by itself, will not increase horsepower.
You would need to reprogram the computer with an aftermarket MAF sensor, which would run a couple of hundred dollars. I suggest to go with a stock unit. |

Go stock unless your going to upgrade a lot at once.
