Need help; 98 Altima bucking
Ok, Hi again. I'm new at this and don't know if part of this message has posted or what....anyway, HOPING someone knows what makes my 98 Altima buck and idle lousy. Dealer said distributor was failing -- charging nearly 100 ah, bucks, for that info and offered to fix it for $750. i opted to take it to a small shop; they replaced the distributor with a refurb and it ran fine for 2 days. Now i'm 75 miles from the garage and the bucking is back. Well, it was back for most of the 15 mile an hour, 20 mile ride home thru the snow storm last Friday. I drove it today and it bucked for the first 5 miles then ran pretty well. Service engine light is still on; i only drove it to the local market and home. I've never actually done this online thing before so am not sure how to find any threads that might help me. Would deeply appreciate any help......

Those cars are also famous for leaking intake manifold gaskets leaking. If you have a "lean" code or "Cyl 4" Misfire code, it is most likely your intake leaking. An easy way to check it is to spray carb cleaner where the intake meets the cylinder head, usually leaks near Cylinder #4. If your repair shop put on an aftermarket distributor it may have failed. I would take it back there if they diagnosed it. They should warranty there work if they are reputable.
