auto trans linkage-1987 944na

linkage not working correctly
my new porsche(944na auto(i have receipts on the auto trans being rebuilt-including a damper
the trans mgear marker on dash isnt telling me correct gear---ie reverse is reading n
drive is n also-trans shifts great--cant get lever to 3rd gear
is this a linkage problem
my wife will put into r and go forward--i see an accident
it will not shoow what gear its in and cant put into lowest position
car sat outside in snow for 3 months
worked when parked
