Engine cranks but wont start

My grandmother has a 1995 Escort wagon. While driving home, as she said, the engine suddenly died on her.

The engine will crank, but it refuses to start. Any ideas what is wrong?

--There is spark and fuel.

how'd you conferm spark and fuel? if it suddenly died I'd check the timing belt. While cranking does it sound like its cranking faster or higher pitched sounding? if so that could be a good point to the belt.

Re: Engine cranks but wont start

We verified spark by taking each plug and touching it to a ground, then cranking the engine. There was spark.

Fuel was checked after, by removing the hose from the fuel filter's exit, and again cranking the engine. Gasoline streamed out.

I was considering the possiblity of injectors being a problem, but it seems unlikely they'd all fail at once.

There doesn't seem to be any abnormal sound while cranking.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, we already replaced that thinking it was the source of our problems... 200 dollars later, it still doesn't work

Re: Engine cranks but wont start

If it died suddenly as she was driving it may be worth taking a look at the timing belt.

Have you scanned for any Onboard computer codes?
The injectors and ignition timing are fired by the EEC when triggered by the Camshaft Position sensor, and/or the Crankshaft position sensor.
I would check the connectors/connections sensors and the EEC. Sensor function can be checked with a DVOM.
