neon lights help?

Ok i know, thier are so many of these question on installing interior neon light, but i need help.

I want to put 2, 15" in interior neon light to give my car some personality. The promblem is that i want to wire them so when my door opens the neon light will turn on and when the ldoor shuts they turn off.

Can anybody tell me what i need, and the steps i need to take to wire them the way i want to put them.

you would probably wire them to the dome light in your car. you would have to find a good ground and then tap into dome light wire and there you have it.

But what will i need to get. Just the wires? And if i go by what you say, to connect it to the dome light, wont it burn the dome light.

no. But you may want to up the amperage of your fuse in the fuse box about 5 more amps. And yes all you'll need is wire. You can use 22 gague speaker wire that you can find at any walmart or radioshack.

Ok but if i were to connect them to the dome light, do i need to connect by where the fuse box is at, where all the wires are located or at the dome light where it on top in the middle of the car?

either way, it is the same wire. tapping in to it by the fuse box and wiring it up to your neons would be much easier and cleaner looking, and you dont have to tear up the headliner...

Just find which wire is the + going to the dome lights, you can do this with a wiring diagram (found in a repair manual) and a multimeter, splice into this wire for your + to your neons find a good ground for the ground of your neons, change the fuse as mentioned before, hide the wires, mount your neons, and your done.

cool, so let me get this straight i need to fuse the amp 5 more, and the (+) wire from the neon go to the fusebox and the (-) goes to the ground?

Yep, You got it,

The +5 Amps for the fuse was just someones guess (although it should be sufficient), if you blow that fuse with the neons installed, go up another 5 Amps

from the neons
+ to Dome lights +
- to a Ground (any bare metal on the body, you can normally find a screw to place your wire underneath)

Again a multimeter can be used to ensure you have tapped the right wire, and found a good ground, while the dome lights are on, just set the multimeter to 20DCV, probe the (+) and the ground (-), and see if you are getting battery voltage 12DCV...This does assume that your dome lights run on 12DCV although they should, you might wanna check that before you wire them up, using the above procedure...

Wiring is not hard, but it is easier with practice/confidence, dont confuse yourself...
