Re: 83 civic hatchback, e' route to fuel pump

what is this e' you're talking about. actually i can't quite follow anything you're talking about. could you please clarify what happened. so far all i can make out is that you replaced the master cylinder which shouldn't do anything to the fuel system.

Yes, e'=electricity. Nothing of my replacement of the master cylender and bleeding the brakes should haave effected the Fuel pump's E' circuit. Bleeding the left rear brake is physically close to the fuel pump. I jumped the pumpand it is working correctly, ie plenty of fuel pumped. Do you know the physical route of the wires from the battery throught the fuses and fuel cut off switch, and especially from there to the pump. I can only guess that an old wire's insulation gave way or the wire broke completely. the fuse is not blown. Removing the cutoff switch and jumping it does not seem to change the cituation. :>( HELP!

There is just no e' in the wires arriving at the fuel pump, which is less than one year old. :>( HELP!

Re: 83 civic hatchback, e' route to fuel pump

well i don't know the exact rout. i had some issues when i swapped the motor in my 83 civic. the stock fuel pump wouldn't work for me, i figured it had to do with all the wires i disconnected (from the emissions stuff, i put sidedraft weber carbs in so none of it did anything any more) so i tried jumping it as you did and still nothing. i also played with the cut off solenoid and that was no use. i ended up getting the pump working on the bench but by that time i had already gotten an aftermarket pump. anyhow, to wire the new pump i just tapped one of the yellow/black wires that power the fuel pump fuse, it is turned on and off with the ignition so the pump turns on on when you turn the key and doesn’t turn off as long as the key is on. that’s where it comes into the fuse box, you’ll see two yellow/black wires, not sure which does what, they both have power when the key is turned. from there i never followed the wiring to the pump, i just used some other wires to power the new pump.

so what exactly is your car not doing? just not running or what?

Andrew.
I think a rewiring of the fuel pump is in order. My car was NOT costing me $$$ 36-38mpg up and down the hills of trinity couunty. :>) Then the brakes gave indications the master cylinder needed work. Then the clutch went out. While waiting for the local driveway mech to find some time to replace the clutch... I replaced the master cylinder, bled the brakes....then tried to start the car in neutral. Engine spun just fine but did not start. I had replaced the fuel pump about a year ago. Sooo checked for fuel at the engine... None.. e'meters showed no electrons flowing at the fuel pump. Fuse ok. bypassed the fuel cut off switch.. nothing. Time for tracing out the yellow and black e' lines and some careful connections. Thanks for the information and your experience. Fshrmn John :>)
