Cheap Bov
Hey guys...the weather is finally turning around and the for sale sign is going up shortly. I am getting the car running properly first, and I would like to install a BOV to get a little more attention at car shows and stuff (to help the sale) and for my own enjoyment for the time being. I don't want to spend $200 though. Can anyone recommend a cheap BOV that sounds decent? I've seen them on ebay for $50 but I am unsure about how loud they would be. Thanks in advance.

I've been told that the first gen DSM BOV is a good cheep upgrade, I've seen one in person and they look good, the guy who owned it says they're good to 18 psi. I need one too but I want to get the HKS, I missed out on a great deal on a used one for $150. Thats my favorite BOV for the expensive route and it can recirculate. After installing my K&N I have noticed that my stock BOV is leaking a bit so I'm in the market for one too lol. Geting rid of the air box lets you hear your BOV way better even the stock one.

Agreed, 1st gen dsm is cheap, I think you need an adapter, but you can find them cheap on 3si. They hold up to 18 or 20psi without being crushed. Definantly the economical route...

they aren't loud though as they are closed loop, but you can still hear them when you get on it and shift.

To my knowledge you can run any BOV open...you just have to block off the two respective recirculating openings..one on bov, one on the bottom of that plastic T-bubble thing in the intake.

Cool I just bought a DSM with flange for $40, not to bad and it is in great shape, its got an olive green top thats knida fugly though like this http://www.linuxpupil.com/darthmaula...t_bov_mod7.jpg but cleaner, think I should get some purple spray paint and redo the top and brush the bottom?

Well I did paint it today, started out like this with the ugly olive green top.
 I took a dremel to it and cleaned off the bottom and abraded the green paint on top away with a brillo pad like dremel bit. Here it is all cleaned up.  Then I used the plastic grocery bag I got when buying the spray paint (duplicolor adonized purple) to mask off the bottom. I kinda rushed it so there is a little overspray in some places, here's what it looks like now.  All told it took me about 20 minutes for everything.

Yea kinda, whats so good about hte type S anyways? They seem very similar in design and function.

I was gonna do it today but I went out shoping today with a friend so it didn't get done. Hopefully tomorrow, I'll try it open first and then closed, probably also take a pic of the stock one since it looks like crap.

Nothing is great about it...it just performs it's function rather well. DSM is a better buy, same job, 1/4 of the cost...glad to see your getting so much so quickly. It's addicting
