420a Awd

I was wondering if it's possible to create my own version of an RSX... An AWD '98 Eclipse RS!! I can't find a decent GST or GSX anywhere, so I've considered buying a 4g63 and doing the conversion (which is a pain in the arse) and attaching the GSX drive train. This would work, but it's not practical at all.

Is it possible to convert a 420A equipped Eclipse to AWD?! Anybody doen this, or even heard of it? I've been searching without any luck, and it seems like alot of ppl on this forum have some good ideas... So let me know what you think.

yes it is possible but you would have to fab up a new belhousing to attatch to a 4g63 awd tranny then turn it all the way around, better off using a newer evo tranny since it is on the same side as your 420a tranny is. then you will have to set up the entire rear suspension/rearend to work right, new gastank/fuelcell. overall i would say it would be much cheaper and a lot less work to just save your money and buy a gsx when you find a nice one. the way you are thinking of doing it will prob cost well into the 10's of thousands to have it done right, in other words no where near worth the time money involved. good luck tho

Re: 420a Awd

mite as well get a DSM AWD, no need to waste labor, money and time on making a 420a AWD. Personally, i think its possible if u have patience, time, money and motivation to do it. Good Luck!

Re: 420a Awd

Welcome to AF. Please don't bring back threads being that old.

On the subject though...
Long story short, not possible with out lots of work, time and money. So many people have talked about doing it, but have not seen even ONE successful mission. Even the people who have tried have a lack of documentation on it. The closet I've seen anything is an 420a->EVO swap, which is shown in the projections section on here. However, we haven't heard from him in a long time now. So, who knows what happened there.
