Overhead Display Not Working

made a thread about this a week or so ago and it disappeared

anyway. My overhead display, the one that displays the temp, direction etc....started to slowly fade, until one day it showed nothing at all and it has been that way for along time now...

this ever happen to anyone? and is it repairable or do I have to replace the whole unit. I heard somewhere that it is tied into the radio somehow?

I've had the same problem. This past summer it slowly faded out. However, now that its been so cold outside it has come back on. Is that weird or what?

Sounds like a loose wire or dirty connection to me.

There is a connector on the back of the DIC that feeds the "Dimming" signal and battery power to the display. I would guess that the pins on the connector are a little loose. I would take the overhead console down and examine the connector closely, or even measure the voltages at the connector.

If you need to know how to take the console down, go here.

If you need to know the signals on the DIC Connector, click here.

Take Care,

Re: Overhead Display Not Working

The display can be replaced as a unit and is fairly inexpensive on eBay or in junkyards. And it isn't tied to the radio in anyway with the exception both the radio and display are controled by the same dimmer for lighting purposes.

I was just going to ask that...because during the time it was fading out, some of the lights on the radio didnt work, like buttons 3 and 5 (i think, the middle ones)......

but if something like the dimmer was toast, then there shouldnt be any lights on the radio at all right?

GregA, thanks for the info. I printed out the above papges and it looks very helpful. I am hoping not to replace it if I don't have too. Thanks again.

Correct. You likely have lights that are just out for the radio.
