How often are Envoy people changing their oil?

Good Morning Everyone,

I have a 04 Envoy XUV SLT with 2,300 miles on it and wanted to get a gauge on when people are changing their oil. I always have lived with the 3K rule but my oil life remaining is at 79% which at this going rate would make it around about 10K before the first oil change.

How many people are still changing it every 3K or do they wait till the oil life remaining comes close to 0%?

I plan to switch to full synthetic when I do the first change to help with the gas mileage. I just need to know when it's a good time to change.

Re: How often are Envoy people changing their oil?

I always followed the 3,000 interval on my old vehicles. But with my TB (and Envoy) I change mine every 5,000 miles using Mobile 1 Synthetic. Because they hold 7 qts, vs. 5 qts as in the older 6's, I assume I can go a little further. Also, it's easy to remember when to change the oil.

I know GM swears by their oil management system, but I figure what's another $25.00 a year to protect my $40k investment.

Re: Re: How often are Envoy people changing their oil?

I personally have been following the oil life meter built into the car. However, keep in mind that there is a cap to the number of miles even if the oil life meter indicates that you don’t need a change. I believe the owner’s manual has a maximum mileage and/or duration which should be followed regardless of the meter—you think they would have built that into the meter.

I am also thinking about switching to synthetic; keep in mind, if you do switch, the oil life meter means nothing anymore as it is all based on “normal” oil.

Up untill the last change, every 3,000 Miles using nothing but Mobil 1 Full Syntetic Oil!! Now i am switching to a 5,000 Oil change with Full Syntetic Oil. We have 2 Envoys and other vehicle usu regular oil. Her Envoy with regular oil has 25,000 Miles and my with Full Syntetic (from the first oil change) has 53,000 and there is a difference when you listen to the engines. My sounds much quieter and smoother (both engines have been fully warmed up to the same temperature) then hers, almost sounds like it is more and better lubricated to.
