Just to cover our bases, your brake fluid level is correct and have have drained the brake lines before deciding you need a new MC right?

i did drain MC

What i found out is that the previous owner of my xterra put a bit of power steering fluid in the master and screwed it up. Do yoiu think my ABS is gone too? Rear brakes have pressure but noy in the front.

Re: master cylinder

Hmmmm....I would bleed the whole system. There is a part where they say to disconnect the battery so air doesn't get in the ABS. It could be a mess though. You might need to bleed the master cylinder, the ABS and all the brake lines. Someone more experienced than me would probably suggest bench bleeding everything.

For what it's worth. I would guess nothing mechanical is wrong, it's more likely what your previous owner did with incorrect fluids.

There's no way I could tell. I'm just on a message board. But you can bleed the ABS unit as well as the MC and brake lines. It's just a pain in the ass if you do it in the vehicle. Speed bleeders help.

Re: master cylinder

Bleed? You need to flush the lines and whole system with new brake fluid then bleed. All that contaminated fluid has to get out of there.

When I said bleed I figured replacing all the fluid "flush" was implied.

Re: master cylinder

That's cool. When I think of bleed, I think of cracking the nipples open to bleed the air bubbles out.
