dash lights come on dim when brake is applied

would anyone know what would make my dash lights come on dim when I have the brake on.It seems I have a wire crossed some where but no Idea where to start looking.I just happened to notice it backing my jeep out of the garage at night with out the lights on.

There may be a shorted tail light bulb circut. Try changing your bulbs first and if that does not work test all the pigtails for continuity and shorts with a circut tester. Check for pinched wires to the tails lights or any wires near the brake pedal.

Have you recently replaced any tail light bulbs? Make sure they are the correct type


It could also be a bad ground at the tail lights. Have someone step on your brake pedal. If the brake lights are dim it's the ground. If they are bright it's a short.

Also check to make sure all your fuses are good. A bad fuse makes weird things happen.

Check your brake light bulb. Had the same thing happen to me and found the filaments inside the bulb were touching, thus everytime the brake was pressed it was backfeeding the lights.

thaks for pointing me in the right direction.I did find it in a aftermarket trailor wiring harness.

That could definately be your problem. You might disconnect all that and put it back original. If you need trailer wiring, start with a clean slate so you can get it done right. This is a common problem and happens a lot.
