Replacing Rear Wheel Bearings
I have a 92 VR-4 and the last time that I had it at the dealer for some minor stuff, they indicated that I should have the rear wheel bearings replaced, since they were starting to go. This is a summer/vacation car, so I don't put alot of miles on it.
My questions are as follows: 1) If the right side is going, should I just bite the bullet and get both of the rears replaced? 2) Does this have to be done by a Mitsubishi dealer, or is this stuff any competent mechanic can do? Any suggestions for a mechanic in the Mass area? 3) What should I expect to pay for parts and labor? Thanks and keep up the great forum. |

Thanks for the process. Any idea on the costs involved or info on my questions?

Re: Replacing Rear Wheel Bearings
Any decent Mechanic should be able to replace the rear bearing. It's not at all a tempramental piece of hardware.
Personally I would just replace the right side. I found that the right side wears a lot faster then the left since it is subject to more lateral impacts (read: bumping the curb) which is not really the type of load the bearing was designed for. |
