95 S-10 2.2L head gasket replacement

Help me with this. I've got coolant in my engine, white "smoke" coming out the tailpipe. So I'm thinking head gasket. Keep in mind that I'm a single 48 year old female with fairly good knowledge of this stuff.....but how difficult is it to change out the head gasket myself (I do regular oil changes, tune-ups myself).
I would appreciate any and all information. Thanks

Re: 95 S-10 2.2L head gasket replacement

You'll probably easily have it done in 1/2 a day or so.

Basicly remove the throttle linkage, exhaust manifold (or flange bolts if it's easier) Remove the valve cover, then all the head bolts
Also mark any wires, or hoses that you have to remove

Do Not Touch the timing cover, Intake Manifold or water pump. Several people remove them and take forever with this small job

Clean up everything, and wire wheel any bolts that you removed
Blow out all the bolt holes with compressed air if you have it. I've used rags equally as well to clean them up but it takes longer.

Then re-assemble everything the oposite way. You'll have to torque the head the way that the book shows

If you don't touch the rocker assembly (where the valve adjustment is) or mix up the push rods (a big no-no) the valves should all still be set

Then the most important part... Dance around all your male friends that know nothing about mechanics and tell them that your smarter than them
