Sonata vs Geo Metro.. and evil Utah.

No joke, I rented a Hyundai Sonata to head to Vegas last summer, and nearly lost to a Geo Metro. The Metro is owned by one of the people who went with me to Vegas.. as a joke, we thought it would be funny to race the Metro on the way back from the Car Rental place. I was surely surprised when flooring it for the first time.. that the Metro actually kept up with me! Holy crap are those Sonatas slow to accelerate. (At least the I-4)

On a side note.. I DID manage to get to speeds of 130MPH+ on the trip to Vegas...after a loooong time. Good thing I slowed down to 106mph in *Richfield, Utah, or I would have lost my license.

*DONT speed through Richfield... EVER, 7 of 8 people, I know, who have taken trips through Utah to Vegas or California from Colorado.. who have gotten tickets there at least once.. The tickets are about double the normal ticket price you would get anywhere sane, and they will ALWAYS get you. (Even for 9-10 mph over!) Try explaining a 400 dollar speeding ticket to your girlfriend or wife. (Or parents.)

Re: Sonata vs Geo Metro.. and evil Utah.

I am all to familiar with Utah's penalties for speeding and what not. I've learned my lesson all to easily. Utah isn't that bad, but I really don't understand why their point system is the way it is. But, every state has their ways. L8...

You must be really addicted to speed if you got a sonanta to 130! That must have been one long downhill straight....I have never gotten my alltrac over 130....

Did you have a windgust behind you ? BTW 130 on sonata's speedo is probably more like 120, 115. My family used to have a GEO metro, and it took a lickin and kept on tickin' (literraly tickin) I would honestly buy a metro if I had to get a super cheap good mpg car.

Re: Sonata vs Geo Metro.. and evil Utah.

Surprisingly no downhills.. no wind.. just 130.. surprised the hell out of me actually, but it did take an insane amount of time. And yes.. I tend to have an addiction to speed. I hate cars passing me.. The 4-5 that did I flipped off. (Not really)

probably because it doesnt have the gearing for high speeds, the celica is a rally car, needs short gears.

I ran out of room, but I was VERY close to the redline at 130...Yeah that must be why it has short gearing

well guess what...if we raced from a 130 mph roll, your sonata would keep up with my maxima

I was in 5th gear. I expected it to have a little more top end. I enjoy the car, I never really get over 100 that much anyways

Re: Sonata vs Geo Metro.. and evil Utah.

130 is 4th in my car, i never went faster than that. 5th is pretty useless; i think i might be able to get up like 5 more mph but thas it...

I just think its my gearing..And its AWD...3rd maxes out at about 95, 4th goes to 120, then 5th goes to...130ish...You have a rx-7 right? I think they have a little longer gearing then me...Anyways, 130 on public roads is very unsafe, so im content
