Problems with starting 89 Dodge Dakota
Hi all,
I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota with a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder. I was having problems with the truck starting fine and then just dying on me and then not starting again unless it took a rest for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. After looking through this forum and a couple of others I ended up replacind the Hall effect picup assembly and I didn't have any problems until yesterday. It died on me again. However, now it won't start at all. I replaced the picup assembly again and that didn't make any difference. I put a fuel pressure tester in line and the fuel pressure is fine. There is one quirk that puzzles me. After installing the fuel pressure tester, it almost started. However, I realized that I had disconnected the electronics from the fuel injector so I hooked that back up and it wouldn't even pop. I disconnected the wiring from the injector again and again it almost started. I did this a few times with the same result. It wouldn't even try to start when the wiring was connected to the injector but almost started with it disconnected. A mechanic friend said that the injector might be bad and that I should test the resistence in the injector. He said it should be between 1.5 and 1.8 ohms. It tested out at 1.7 ohms. So I am assuming the injector isn't the problem. Do any of you out there have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: Problems with starting 89 Dodge Dakota
Sounds like it may be flooding, or a problem with the IAC motor.
