Plug wire boot question

I recently had the plugs, plug wires, dist cap and rotor changed on my 97 Ram 1500 PU with 5.9 L engine. My question is about the rubber Boots on the ends of the plug wires. How far down into the round metal shields around the plugs should the boots be installed? Right now, the big round flange of each boots is about 3 inches above the top of each shield. Shouldn't they be pushed all the way down on to the shield to keep water, dirt etc out? Thanks. John M

Re: Plug wire boot question

have you driven the truck sense this was done?
if yes, and it ran fine, then there is a chance that the new wires have a longer boot on them, and they may not go any further into that sleve. if you have not driven it yet, you'll want to make sure that the wires are securly attatched to the plugs, otherwise, as mentioned above, you could have problems with the spark arcing to the manifold, and not getting to the plug.
also, I just thought of this, you may want to pull one of the wires, and check to see if the boot moves over the wire, it could be that the wire is attatched to the plug, and the boot just needs to slide down a bit.
