Help: honda engine dimensions

i'm building a tube frame rock crawler and am thinking about putting in a honda motor mounted transversly (right side powers front axle, left side powers rear axle). The opening is the frame is currently 5cm long x 2.5cm wide. Would a civic motor fit in this opening? i searched for a while and found lots of pictures, but no numbers.

Re: Help: honda engine dimensions

Why don't you get the engine and build the frame around the engine rather?

It easily fits without any mods.

Re: Help: honda engine dimensions

Very interesting engine set up. Does a B16 have enough torque for a rock crawler?

I'm questioning that motor application as well.

Re: Help: honda engine dimensions

I was alsolooking for a subaru motor, but i've never seen one, let alone a cheap one.
Someone has put a honda motor in a similar vehicle. It just needs a 100:1 (or so) crawl ratio and it does okay thanks to the high revving.

This looks awesome. To think that I wanted to throw in a 440 big block into a tuner, hey, anything's possible in the model world.

Re: Help: honda engine dimensions

I say move up to 8 cylinders. Set the engine in the front so you have a good center of gravity, plus you can pull tons of torque from the 350 Small blocks.

The new Revell WRX metal-body kit comes with what looks like a very nice Subaru EJ20 motor.

Of course, much like Honda motors, Subaru motors tend to look the same from the outside, so you could easily call it an EJ257 (UDSM STi motor) and it'd be at about 300 hp @ 6000rpm / 300 lb-ft @ 4000rpm. Not quite V8 specs, but for sure more than a Honda B-series would make.

I second the suggestion of engine up front. Not sure how much a Honda engine weighs, but add in all the other mechanical for a side mount setup like that and I think it could be too weight on one side. better make sure you've got a sturdy roll cage!
