freeze plug

Hello everyone! i have a 95' cavalier and i am having troubles getting my freeze plug out. it is rusted around the edge and i have tried everything to knock it out. anyone have any suggestions.

break a hole through the middle, pry it out with a pry bar after you made the hole.

Yep, don't be afraid to destroy the old one. I have used the above method many times.

Rusted hole in it. I have never seen a case to put one in where I could leave the old one in.

How does that affect the engine?

I use #1 permatex around the new freeze plug before I pound it in. Keeps it from leaking around the edges.

What do you mean? Do you know what a freeze plug is? It is a metal plug put into the casting holes in the block. These holes are there to let the casting sand out and they open into the cooling jackets. If your freeze plug is bad it will leak coolant. If it is not leaking coolant then it is not bad.
