Re: srt-4 turbo and manifold on 1st gen dohc
you will need to get a wastegate - you can only run a little boost on that motor. a way of controlling it - fuel. and lots of time to tweak things. look into a fuel/air controller, and a decent wastegate. then you can run 4-6psi of boost, and should be getting decent power

ive read where the motor will withstand 10 psi. i knwo that the stock wastegate on the srt is anwheres from 11-14. besides the wastegate is there anything else that i will need
thank you |

Re: srt-4 turbo and manifold on 1st gen dohc
10psi is a lot of boost. i would be EXTREMELY cautious of running that much boost in an otherwise stock motor. especially with the neon head gaskets being the way that they are. you will need a fuel system (injectors, regulator, possiably a fuel pump, and a fuel controller for sure) especailly at higher boost. you will also need to find a way to get the added boost into your motor so that your computer figures it out. you might need to get a piggyback computer to deal with the extra air in the motor.

This is going to be a long lost so you don't blow up your engine.
36lbs injectors minimum Walbro 255 fuel pump FPR Intercooler All the tubing High Volume Oil Pump Oil Cooler Low Boost Wastegate With these things you shouldn't blow your engine. You need the upgraded fuel stuff to make sure you don't go lean and fry your car. The intercooler is so you don't detonate, the neon has like a 9.3:1 compression which is extremely high for a turbo, I think the SRT has like 7.8:1 or 8.2:1 or something like that. The oil pump will be able to supply the higher volume of oil you'll require due to te added heat of the turbo, the oil cooler is to try and keep your engine temp down as much as possible. The wastegate is self expanatory I WOULD NOT go over 8psi on stock internals. Also if you have a Mopar computer, I would change it out for stock unless you have adjustable cam pulley, and can back down your timing manually, they advance your timing greatly and will increase the chance of detonation. |

Re: srt-4 turbo and manifold on 1st gen dohc
your going to need a lot bigger injectors than that!
the SRT is 8.1:1, 9.3:1 isnt too bad for a turbo as long as you have forged internals. if you dont, you will have problems. the issue with most neons (not SRT, but neons with the 2.0 motors) is instead a head gasket issue. they will go before your internals |
