Speed

Any suggestions for how to get out of a speeding ticket?! I just received the "magistrate's decision" - "responsible, pay now!!"

I am still fuming since I was nailed as part of a crackdown on 200 plus other idiot's decisions to create a 200 plus car pileup on a foggy afternoon. And now that I drive 70-75 in the 70 zone, SUVs go flying by me like I am standing still.

Gonna cost me $115 - and maybe more when my insurance company catches wind of it.

Talk to an attorney, that is the easiest way to get out of a speeding ticket.
It may sound expensive at first, but the price will usually break-even after you include the increase in your insurance premium.

Re: Speed

If this is your first ticket, just go to court and ask for leniancy. Most judges, at least where I live, just take all points off, give you probation before judgment, and only make you pay the fine. This way your insurance company doesn't see that you had a violation and they don't raise your premium.

If this is one of many violations, this will probably not work for you. You need a clean record of at least 3-4 years.

Good luck!

Yeah, when I lived in the real world that worked. I seem to get one every 3-4 years, when the old one comes off my record and I get too cocky!

But now I live out here in the Bible/Gun belt. The court even posts on their website "we will not discuss points".

I already sent the ticket in with explanation which suffices as informal hearing. I can either pay up or post bond in amount of ticket fine and request formal hearing at this point.

I found a link to traffic attorneys. Sent an email two days ago - I think I will call them today.

Thanks.

In Ontario, we have these guys called Xcopper...they are like (educated guess and heresay) retired cops who take your ticket and fight it for you...I heard that they are friends with alot of the police force and can get the cop to not show up on the court date, thus having the judge throw the ticket out...they have other tricks as well to reduce your fine

They cost like $250 but in Ontario a speeding ticket will cost you ALOT more than that in points, but its not a guarenteed win

Other than that, again I only know from Ontario, you can set a court date and push it back a couple of times, when you do this the cop may not show up for that date and you get off scot free...

Re: Speed

I have nothing to add- other than the fact that the title of this thread is deceptive...

And here I thought I might get a chance to tell some old stories from college.
