1993 sable idle problem, stalling, low rpm

I have a 1993 Sable (automatic), which has been running rough. When I start it, I basically have to stay with it and keep my foot on the gas pedal. It wants to stall almost as if it's "choking". I have to drive with two feet, one on the gas and one on the brake as it stalls as the idle will no go above 400. I used to keep the car in idle after starting with my foot on the gas, engine rpm at 1100 for two minutes and problem was fixed as idle would come up to 900, but not no moe. The idle is always at 400 or less. The battery is brand new and I have put carurato cleaner and gas line anti freeze in the gas tank a few times now. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks

Sounds like the Idle Speed Control motor (ISC) is bad. It keeps the idle speed correct. When you start it, can you see the ISC motor move the throttle?

If your still having the same problem you might also try your fuel map sensor. Sounds like the EXACT same thing that my parents Sable Station Wagon was doing at one time... We brought it to the shop, and they replaced it, and we havent had a bit of trouble.. though they no longer have it...
Rememberber though this type of problem can be caused by a lot of diffrent sensors, ect... If you have an Autozone in your area go and let them pull any codes that may be showing, our local Autozone will pull codes for free.... I think that they all do!!!

Mine has been doing the same thing lately. It was running rough and low idle when i started it. I thought it may have been a bad plug or plug wire. THey told me it was the head gasket on the back head. Great, 2nd time replacing these damn things. I'm mailing the old one directly to the CEO of Ford this time with a F U letter.

When was the last time you did a tune up?Scan for computer codes this will tell you if any electrical sensors are giving you any problems. Also check for any broken emission hoses.
