Re: rpm's question?

Yeah, it can depend on the air temperature, ect, but running below 1000 rpms is perfectly normal. It should be running anywhere from 600 up to about 1200. Less then 600 or 500, and it will start sputtering and stall, and more then 1200 to 1300, and you'd probably have problems like a vacuum leak, improperly sealed throttle plate, and other stuff like that. But below 1000 is fine.

Re: rpm's question?

Your idle RPM's may also change like Ridenour says, with the weather air temp/ moisture. It may also change when you turn on the A/C or windshield defroster( Windshield defroster will turn on the A/C compressor this is normal).

Re: rpm's question?

Yeh, those accessories put a drain on the electrical system = weaker spark = lower rpms. The biggest drain possible is by the rear defroster. I don't remember the specs, but turning on the rear defroster puts a hugeass drain on the electrical system, so make sure you don't have it on with too many other assecories, as it could actually stall you out if you already had idle problems - also make sure you don't have it on if you're in a situation where you need power.
