vw golf won't fire hellllp please

Hi we have a vw golf 1.8 cl 1993 was running lovely until last october started loosing power once or twice a month but if you poped bonnet one of the wires had come of put this back on and everything was fine then one daydriving to work lost all power engine died but this time no wire of. mechanic said replace ignition coil did that still no spark replaced ht leads still no spark had distributor rebuilt still no spark. however when looking for second hand distributor tried different make in it . mechanic now says engine codes need to be reset as putting wrong distributor in caused problem engine will turn but no spark to plugs this mechanic has been on and off the job for three months but don't know if getting ripped off please does anyone have any suggestion thanks in anticipation

Go down to my other thread. It's titled HELP!!!! Basically if it is the same problem as mine you need to change the electronic part of your ignition switch. I hope that helps. For me I tried changing coil packs, checked distributor caps, and to no help. So just check out that other thread and see if that helps.

thanks junk but you said on yours it was sparking mine isn't would it still be ignition switch i have no spark from plugs at all thanks mel

Like the whole testing the plug wire test failed when we took one out and put a screw driver in it and placed the screw driver near the engine no spark. So yeah it won't give spark but it has spark ya konw? I know it's confusing but yeah. The switch on mine was only $38 I think.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions golf is fixed now it turned out that i needed an ignition coil from vw the one i brought didn't have enough power to run everything hope this helps someone else with theirs as we paid an awful lot for the coil new we thought that problem was out of the equation but after lots of testing etc it seemed coil would have been ok for smaller golf but not the 1.8 thanks again for all your help mel
