Q&A about Replacement of vacuum hubs with Warn mechanical

Good afternoon Louis,
Well we got the part# 61918 auto-mechanical hubs from Warn. However, today mechanic called and said the cam assembly is missing. I've reviewed the installation sheet that came with the parts and it appears that the vacuum hubs do not have a cam assembly. Can you confirm this?)

Indeed removing the vacuums and installing the automechanical involves an installation kit containing 4 parts (for each side: the hub, the cam assembly, the spindle nut and the spindle key.

I have one more question, there was no cam assembly included with the Warn parts, do I asume I need to purchase this seperately. Her machenic said that when he removed the tire & hub, there was no esisting cam assembly. This is very confusing,
Thanks Gord

The vacuum hubs used in 1998-2002 do not function with a cam system: it worked on vacuum. So of course then the cam assembly and the other parts need to be installed for the mechanical hubs (the cam and key are additions, but the spindle must be changed also because it is different.

I would have thought provider of hubs on the aftermarket would sell the whole kit , because it is known these hubs are used all across the board as replacement for the vacuums, so all the parts are required and even replacing the same type hub with a new one should involve changing the cam assembly too because that is a part that wears out with usage.

Holy Molly Louis, I must say this email stuff is fantastic. I just talked to my daughter and she said, her mechanic just called her and said he just spoke to WARN and they had 3 calls this week about this same issue and agree that they should include the cam assembly as well as additional instructions. Can you believe it. Anyways, WARN said they will ship her the missing parts (as well as include them with their kit in future) by Wednesday next week. Wow! finally she will have this issue resolved. I'll advise you of her outcome as soon as she is on the road again. In the mean time perhaps maybe you should update the internet forum of this days activities.
Gord

Hey...most satisfied it turns out the way it should have been from the start.. One word of caution here: be sure everyone understand the "missing parts" must also include spindle nut and key
