Yes, you'll pass inspection but make sure your car is warmed up to operating temp before you get tested AND do not turn the car off prior to the test.

As for which is better, Cattman is known for quality BUT you'll pay for it. Personally, I'd just get a Warpspeed for $160 which is aluminized steel.

Re: Aftermarket y pipe

^ drop resistor mod is for automatics. it makes the transmission shift as if it's at full throttle(wot) even when it isn't.

as for y pipes i'd get a budget y pipe from www.budgetexhaust.com (click the first link and go to systems, the part's listed there) it's listed at $250 but it's in canadian dollars so it's only like $165 after you convert it to US dollars. this is the budget pipe i had on my 95 maxima:

it makes the car move like a bat outta hell. it's best mod you can get for the money

this link shows a dyno of a stock maxima vs one with a y pipe. it showed an average of 18 hp gain and peaked as high as 30+ hp:

yeah? that sucks. i had a nice clean fit for mine. the guy i had put it on even made it a point to say how well it went, other than getting the bolts off.

Re: Aftermarket y pipe

Yeah, on the Org, this one guy went absoultely postal when his budget Y-pipe didn't fit right, and wrote a huge long editorial about it...I have a custommaxima.com Y-pipe(they don't sell it anymore)...works great, but that tinny rattling sound of the exhaust gases being forced through the flex pipe is REALLY annoying.

Question

What effect do things like a Y-pipe and cold air intake have on a car with a little over 100k miles on it? I like fast cars but I'm not the most knowledgeable person on them. Also, what's the difference between a short ram and normal intake? I'm basicly looking to ad about 30-40hp to my 95 GLE.

Re: Aftermarket y pipe

Negligible. FI and nitrous are the only real wear-and-tear power-adders. The quickest way to add 30-40hp would be full exhaust from the headers back, an ECU upgrade and CAI. You can get the Warpspeed from them directly for $160 by mentioning maxima.org.

Re: Aftermarket y pipe

For the maxima, the y-pipe is the holy grail of bolt-ons...as THT mentioned, you can get 15 horsepower AT THE WHEELS for $160...you will not get a better horsepower/dollar ratio better than that, my friend.
