sr20 or rb20

OK I have a question for u guys what would be faster the sr20 or the rb20 stock? Can the rb20 drift like the sr20 can? What is the max power a rb20 can handle? The reason why i'm asking because i havea buddy that has a rb20 front clip that he wants to sell. So if the rb20 motor can beat the sr20 i'll prolly gonna grab it.

Re: sr20 or rb20

hmmm good q. Most people will probably tell you to go sr because well the parts are way easier to find and upgrade compared to the rb20 (stateside that is). I would go rb20 if you can get a deal on it. Parts are not totally unfindable. But if you want less of a hassle i would say sr20, just because everyone and there grandma wants one now and there just more popular. But if you want to be a rare guy, then rb20.

Re: sr20 or rb20

RB20 has more low end torq.. u can put a bigger Turbo on it, + i think its a steel block right? so it can handel more boost..

Re: sr20 or rb20

6 cyl vs 4 cyl
both turboed
rb hp > sr hp
sr = less hassle, more install intructions
rb = handle more power, most likely (good guess)
sr - JDM DriFFFTORRS
rb - weighs a bit more but i think drifting in it should be managable

RB20 HP=SR20 HP
roughly anyways

its an iron block i think, but built up the sr and the rb could sustains comparable boost, the sr20 has a much better aftermarket, the rb would spool larger turbo quicker being 6cyl

the rb20 is a fairly easy install though, its the closest thing to stock fit in the 240 out of the rb series, not an extreme amount of modifications to fit it

the repair costs would be higher though as parts would be harder to find, and you would have to order them directly from japan yourself probably

Re: sr20 or rb20

2.0l of airflow is 2.0l of airflow no matter how many cylinders it passes through.

2.0*61.02=122.04 or 122CID
divided by 1728cu ft=.0706
*7500rpm=530CFM
divided by 2=265CFM
multiplied by .069lb min=18.2lb/min.

1lb/min of airflow is approx=10hp

Now a given engine that flows 18.2lb/min of air is going to make 182BHP no matter how you look at it or how many cylinders it has. The only other factor to be considered is VE. But the only thing to be affected is power curve. Which the RB will have a smoother one, but no more power is to be expeced.

Re: sr20 or rb20

built, both motors handle just about the exact same power.

Re: sr20 or rb20

If both motors were built i would think that the rb20 would faster than the sr and make more power.

Re: sr20 or rb20

And you are free to think that, but its incorrect. Your car, your engine. Do as you wish.

Re: sr20 or rb20

The RB is just to freaking huge for the 240sx. It is the same size in displacement but it is just enormous in actual size. It weighs more and the good points don't make up for the physical size. Go SR. You'll be glad you did. BTW I own both. The SR is my preferred weapon of choice.
